IFOAM defines the organic farming as a "production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved " Details of the principles of organic farming can be read on the official website of IFOAM here. We at Ecomaat believe that organic farming is the foundation of sustainable development as the sole prerequisite for a possible future for next generations As part of the corporate vision and strategy for development, we adapted some basic principles of conventional agriculture, according to the fundamental requirements of organic farming. In our agricultural activities in the creation, maintenance and processing of essential oil bearing crops and our daily work we are guided by activities that: - preserve the fertility of the earth and its organic activity to nourish the plants
- refrain from actions polluting soil and the environment
- do not include use of genetically modified products and ionizing impacts
- implement and use of green technologies
- are equitable and fair to the people working in the field
For cultivation of oil-bearing plants we use seeds of the best Bulgarian varieties and with certified origin. Our plantations are located in proven ecologically clean area in the heart of Stara Planina mountain. At an altitude of 800m Ecomaat's fields are the highest in Bulgaria, which is another prerequisite for growing organic produce. The use of fertilizers and chemicals for plant protection has been replaced with the inclusion of products allowed for organic farming, which are agreed in advance and confirmed for utilization by representatives of our certifying body. The agronomist experts of Ecomaat Ltd. have developed our own methodology for plant protection and in many cases the activites for fighting plant enemies and diseases and weeds control are manually accomplished. |
